About Clear Space Productions

The term “clear space” refers to a focus on the process, knowledge and craft of performance, rather than elaborate production elements. The founders of Clear Space Productions, Inc., Doug Yetter and Ken Skrzesz, wish for audiences to leave performances with a deep understanding and appreciation of the humanity in theatrical performance — the idea that we find ourselves in what appears on the stage.

The overall goal of the Lewes/Rehoboth Beach-based organization (non-profit under Federal Tax Code 501(c)3) is to train local talent through the Clear Space Arts Institute and support that talent with professionally produced theatrical opportunities, leading to a professional theatre company based in Southern Delaware (Clear Space Theatre Company).

Other components of Clear Space Productions include education and community outreach programs. In October, 2006, Clear Space Productions was granted Company-in-Residence status at Cape Henlopen High School. The collaborative agreement allows:

  • Clear Space faculty to offer workshops to students and teachers
  • Students to attend Arts Institute classes at a discount
  • One free Theatre Company performance per year for students
  • All Theatre Company performances to occur in one location

The impact of Clear Space Productions in the Southern Delaware community came to light in the year-end report of 2007:

  • More than 13,500 people attended or participated in Clear Space Productions programs!
  • Nearly 600 students studied with CSP faculty throughout our Arts Institute classes!
  • The Clear Space Theatre Company realized a 15% increase in audience!
  • The Clear Space Theatre Company has expanded their Company-in-Residence status at Cape Henlopen High School to the classroom!
  • The Clear Space Chorus grew by another 33%!
  • Clear Space Productions will expand their collaborative agreement with the Schwartz Center in 2008!
  • Over 7,500 hours of time was volunteered!
  • Our budget exceeded $313,000 with a nearly $500,000 budget for 2008!

PERFORMANCE

The Clear Space Theatre Company presents a season of seven performances (September through July) at Cape Henlopen High School’s 300-seat theatre. The performances combine the talents of local actors (children and adults), many of whom train at the Arts Institute, with the talents of hired professionals, accompanied by local, professional musicians.

  • Fall Show: A fully-produced non-musical play.
  • New Works Festival: A multi-day festival that includes staged readings and “singings” of recent unpublished work by playwrights, composers and lyricists from around the world, chosen by a community panel. The creators attend the Festival to speak about their works.
  • Scrooge!: An annual, fully-produced original musical, written by the Artistic Directors (based on Charles Dickens', A Christmas Carol). Scrooge! also tours to the Schwartz Center for the Arts in Dover, DE, and offers weekday matinees at reduced prices for area school students.
  • An American Songbook: This premiere concert, presented by the Artistic Directors, also tours in conjunction with the Outreach Program. The concert routinely performs to sold-out audiences each season.
  • Spring Musical: A fully-produced full-length musical play.
  • Children's Theatre Show: Chosen from among the winners of the New Works Festival of the preceding year, this show stars students from the Broadway Bound on Tour program.
  • Broadway Voices: Professional, musical theatre actors who have Broadway credits, perform a unique show, devised especially for this event, comprised of stories and songs of their career(s).
  • Summer Musical: A fully-produced and well-known musical. The show also tours to the Schwartz Center for the Arts in Dover, DE.
